Recycle mobile phones, PDAs and used ink cartridges

This is something almost all of us can do.

G4G is registered with www.recyclingappeal.com
Collect unwanted mobile phones, PDA’s and used ink cartridges either at home and/or at work. If your place of work doesn’t already recycle their ink cartridges, ask if you can do that for G4G.

Simply have a box somewhere near the printers and let everyone know that as cartridges are changed, the old ones are placed in your box. By recycling in this way, you are not only helping raise funds for G4G but you are stopping the waste going into landfill. We can all help our own environment, as well as the mountain gorillas in Virunga!

  1. There are two downloads you will need. The Price List tells you how much G4G will be paid for each mobile phone, PDA and/or cartridge collected.

  2. Then, ideally, you will need to write on the Packing Sheet how many of each you have in your collection box. This helps to check the funds received. Recyclingappeal.com pays G4G straight away, if the value of your items is £24 or more. If less than £24, recycling.com waits for your next collection. Ideally, send boxes of items that add up to more than £24, if possible!

  3. On the Packing Sheet, you need to write in the G4G Account no: VEN0224429 in the boxes at the top and ‘Gearing Up 4 Gorillas’ in the ‘Organisation’ box underneath.

  4. Fill in your collection details, no: of boxes, name, sign the form and pop it in the box (or one of them if you have several. Recycling Appeal will collect up to 8 boxes in one collection that weigh no more than 20 kilos each!) If you remember, keep a copy as your record.

  5. Phone 08451 30 20 10 and let recycling.com know the location of the box(es) and they will send someone to collect it.

G4G trustees collect and recycle phones and cartridges at home and at work and it all adds up over a year and it really couldn’t be simpler – just one form in the box and a phone call.

Mobile Phones: As of February 2005, there are officially more mobile phones than people in the UK. 78% of the UK population currently own at least one mobile phone, and research shows phones are upgraded every 18 months on average. How many old mobiles do you have hiding in your drawers and cupboards? Please ensure all SIM cards and phone cases are removed.

PDA’s: Personal Digital Assistants, Palm Pilots, Blackberries – in our increasingly wired world, the variety of communication tools available changes quickly. If keeping up with the latest technology, the Recycling Appeal can use old products to support G4G. All types of PDAs are accepted - units complete with battery and charger command higher values.

Ink Cartridges: Please note that there are some items Recycling Appeal cannot recycle: broken cartridges, toner bottles, ribbon cartridges, re-manufactured cartridges or Epson ink jet cartridges.

Do visit the www.recyclingappeal.com web site, as it offers all kinds of promotional posters, amazing facts and figures on recycling you can use, templates for press releases and letters, together with many ideas for campaigns that have worked for others.

If you begin recycling, let us know at G4G and we will post your news and successes on the web site.
