Sponsored Event

Another huge array of things you can do that will bring in the sponsorship pennies and pounds!

We cannot possibly suggest all the possibilities here but supporters have raised substantial sponsorship monies through sponsored skydives, a trek up Mt. Kilimajaro, one had their hair shaved off and another put themselves through a sponsored ‘Pounds for £’s’ slim in.

School non-uniform days, a sponsored silence (popular with parents for some reason), walk, swim or run are some of the more popular activities. There’s an endless list of opportunities but G4G suggests you choose something you will enjoy doing. People will often sponsor you to do something they wouldn’t dare do themselves (head shave) or something that takes a lot of stamina (a long walk or the equivalent of swimming the Channel perhaps).

Do always make sure whatever you do will be safe to undertake – again ask for help and advice from others.

Opportunities exist to do sponsored activities with organisations that encourage you to raise money for your charity but who ensure you will be looked after. If wanting to undertake a walk, try timeoutdoors who offer different length walks in beautiful areas. Justwalk hold a special one day challenge each year for those who want to raise funds for their chosen charity. A choice of 10, 20, 40 and 60 km walks are also offered.

If running is for you, take a look at runners world and running diary to find out where organised sponsored runs of varying lengths are being held.
A sponsored cycle ride is another favourite. To discover where cycling events are being held go to bike events for further information.
For the more adventurous, search acrossthedivide.com for international challenges.

Whatever you decide to do, download the G4G sponsorship form here, simply fill in your details at the top and away you go, in search of sponsors. Try to encourage your sponsors to sign the ‘Gift Aid’ column if they are a UK tax payer, as their sponsor money will then increase by 0.28p in the pound, at no extra cost to themselves.

Justgiving.com
What would help G4G even more, would be to use justgiving.com for your event. Your sponsors can donate directly online, leave you a message to boot and Just Giving collect the Gift Aid automatically for G4G. It’s very easy to set up your fund raising page. Just go to the Justgiving site and follow the prompts to set up your event page. You give a description of what it is you are doing and encourage sponsors to both donate and leave you a comment if they wish. Justgiving let you know every time someone sponsors you, so you can email them a personal ‘thank you’. You can add a photo to your page, refresh the information about your event or update supporters on your preparations. Set a target for monies raised and a bar at the top shows how you’re doing!

Whatever your event – large or small – let G4G know and it will be posted
on the Events Calendar online here, in advance, for everyone to see.

After your event, send G4G 2 or 3 photos and a brief 250 words describing your event. G4G would love to post that here on the site too – it will encourage others to take the plunge and raise funds for the Virunga rangers and gorillas.
