There are around 200 mountain gorillas living in Virunga National Park, eastern DR Congo, which is approaching one third of the world population. Classed as 'critically endangered', the total population is estimated to be in the order of 700. Whilst mountain gorillas face threats wherever they live, those facing the population in DR Congo are intense and ongoing.

G4G focuses on support for the dedicated rangers of Virunga National Park, who put their lives on the line to protect mountain gorillas. Over 100 rangers have been killed in the line of duty in the last decade. Vehicles, basic equipment and funds enable them to carry out their work effectively and safely. Consistent, ongoing support also sends a message that they are not forgotten in their daily work.

Trustees and volunteers all have day jobs but are devoted to raising donations of equipment and funds in their spare time. Whilst the mountain gorillas may be many miles away, G4G has proven that practical assistance can be directed to where it matters - to the rangers at the sharp end.
