Linda’s latest update from DRC
As many will know Linda has finally made it over to DRC after being delayed by voilent fighting in the area (featured on BBC South Today 28th May), reports the following:
“I’m over here travelling round with the rangers and will send a brief report very soon ! I’m at Mutsora in the north of Virunga National Park. It’s in the Rhuenzeri Mountains - absolutely fantastic, stunning !”
“Before arriving here, I spent time in Rwanda seeing AMAHORO group of 15 gorillas, (the name means ‘peaceful’), and they kept coming very close and had to back away. The Rwandans are very kind and friendly people, and I stayed at the Muhabura Hotel, about an hour from the DRC border.”
“On a sadder note, a female gorilla was shot in the Congo on Friday. It is a terrible tragedy, especially now as this leaves an orphan. Everyone here is extremely upset and angry. If you wish to read more about this please go to http://www.wildlifedirect.org. I will move on to Bukima at the weekend if the situation has settled down”
